How Wearing A T-Shirt Increased My Speaking Confidence

One of the biggest pieces I’ve seen with my clients especially in their mastermind is getting down to the core of alignment and authenticity. Before, I would always wear blazers and dress shirts. Now, you would always see me wearing t-shirts. This is a big sign for me because it’s been a transformation.

I’ve had stylists before who would tell me that I need to have blazers to show that I’m credible. You may have heard others tell you the same thing too. Have you heard someone say that you need to look professional to show you are credible, because people will judge you if you don’t?

In my workshops, stylists would tell me that people are going to pay money to come into my program. If they see me in a t-shirt, they might question themselves if they made the right decision.

But one thing I noticed was at the end of every workshop, as I put on my t-shirt and a pair of comfortable pants, I would feel so much better. Without a jacket on, I was more engaged, confident, and more comfortable in my own skin. The suit was owning me. I wasn’t owning the suit!

A good friend of mine named Anthony once told me to ditch the blazer in my videos. He said, “It’s not about the outfit you wear, but how you rock it.” I realized he was right. I feel more confident in a t-shirt anyway.

At the end of the day, it’s your choice. The question is, what feels better for you? Don’t think about what will make you look more credible. Focus on what feels better. You have to be true to yourself and dress in a way that represents you. With that being said, I’m not wearing t-shirts with mustard stains all over it. I am dressing on point. I should still be stylish, just not over-the-top formal.

This is also something that my business coach urged me to look at with my brand. He once told me, “How do you want people to feel around you? How do you want to feel?” As for me, I want people to come and feel very comfortable because the work we do, all the breakthroughs, open our clients to a whole new level of possibilities, power, and confidence in their life.

Come From a Place of Alignment

As you put your message out there, focus on what feels best for you. As for me, I am at my best when I feel comfortable. And when I’m comfortable, I can truly show up and serve my clients in the most powerful way possible.

Come from a place of alignment because anything that’s forced will have an energy that’s not aligned. To be able to speak with confidence and show up powerfully, I urge you to examine all elements of your life. Ask yourself, “How am I showing up? Is it aligned with my brand? What’s in my heart?” Asking yourself these questions will help you make the impact you’re put on this planet to make.
