4 Reasons Why You Hold Yourself Back From Selling

Hi I’m Lucas, and I am here to sell you my coaching services.“

Now you might be thinking, “What? That’s pretty upfront…

And understandably so.

You’ve no doubt had this experience before. Where you hesitate to say what you really want to say, out of fear of how people are going to perceive you.

There’s so much fear about saying what you want today, especially with the uprise of social media.

I don’t know if you notice this, but there’s so many people on YouTube videos teaching great content, but when it comes to asking people to purchase, they hesitate and/or start acting odd.

Their voice cracks. Their body language shifts…

As a business owner, you might be able to relate to this.

But why does it happen?

Reason #1 – Sales Has Negative Connotations

As an entrepreneur, you’re here to make an impact.

And if you know you can get results for your clients, it’s your duty.

It’s your obligation to make offers. To sell.

Because anything but that, doesn’t allow your clients to make the transformation and changes that you got into business to help them with.

Yet, the #1 reason you don’t sell is that you don’t want to seem pushy. Because sales has negative connotations.

I spoke about this topic quite recently, and here’s the bottom line – if you’re not adding value, then DON’T sell.

Avoid it at all costs.

If your product/service is a scam product and you’re not helping people improve, then do us all a favour, and stop offering it.

But if you actually do create results for your clients, then what’s really getting in the way?

Why are there fears of putting yourself out there?

By preventing yourself from making offers and selling, you’re effectively preventing your clients from making the transformations they need.

Any change in this world has happened
because a person bought something

Every transformation, every advancement in your life has been the result of you buying.

That requires somebody to sell.

So if you’re holding yourself back in sales, look inside yourself and ask yourself, “Why am I hesitating to put myself out there?

Because if you believe and you know that you provide great client services, great experiences, great results, then again – it’s your obligation to sell.

Reason #2 – You Don’t Feel Like You’re Worth It

Another factor that can often come up is self-worth.

Maybe you don’t feel that you’re worth it. Maybe you feel that you’re not good enough. Or maybe you don’t feel that you’re qualified enough.

If it’s because of any of those 3 listed reasons, then there is some inner work that needs to be done.

There’s nothing that can help you with those feelings besides going inside yourself and asking, “Why do I not feel that I’m worth it?

Because a lot of times with business (and this may sound cliché), you don’t have business problems. You have personal problems that are showing up in your business.

You don’t have business problems.
You have personal problems that are showing up in your business.

So if you don’t feel that you’re good enough, chances are, there are other areas of your life that haven’t been paid enough attention to, and it’s leaking over into your business.

Reason #3 – You Don’t Love Sales

Sales is literally the lifeblood of your business.

If you stop making sales, you’re not gonna make any money. And you’ll be out of business very soon.

But to add another layer to that, sales is a metric of your success.

The more you sell, the more value you add to the world.

For myself, I always look at it from a standpoint of adding value. The more people I work with, the more changes I help make, and the more improvements I contribute to in the world, the more I get paid.

It’s a very simple way to look at it, but it’s been a huge mindset shift for myself.

Another way I look at it is:

When clients pay me, that’s when they’re actually investing in themselves.

See, a lot of times people have hesitation. They don’t feel that they’re worth investing in.

So they don’t invest in themselves.

And as part of the sales process, you are helping reach the point where they make that decision to finally give themselves permission; where they finally say “I’m worth it. It’s worth investing in myself.”, and they take that action towards transforming their life.

Reason #4 – You Don’t Embrace The Tension With Sales

With sales comes tension – that’s always guaranteed.

I know even for myself when I make an offer from stage, there’s tension in the room.

And for me (and you), it’s really just about getting comfortable with that tension and embracing it.

Because when you’re comfortable with that tension, that’s when you’re like, “Okay. Decision making time is coming.

Because it’s easy to just continue adding value. Again. And again. And again.

But if you’re like me, you’ve found yourself in this situation before – where you just keep adding value until you go to death.

So instead of that, really take the time to go, “Okay, what’s the ONE action I need to take to make sure this transformation for my audience happens?

SPOILER ALERT – that one action, is a sale.

They have to commit to themselves. They have to commit their future.

It requires you to be the leader to make that offer, and it requires them to have the courage to invest in you to make that happen.

And the only thing that you can control out of those two is making your offer, and how you make it.

So embrace the tension that comes with sales.

Embrace sales as an opportunity.

What’s Stopping You?

If you ever find yourself in that situation where you’re holding yourself back from selling, focus on your connection and relationship with sales.

Start looking at it from within:

  • Is it that you don’t believe in your product or service?
  • Is it that you don’t believe in yourself?
  • Is it that you’re too worried about what other people might think?

If you’re worried about coming across as pushy to others, just remember:

The wrong crowd will find you pushy.
The right crowd will thank you for taking the first step.

So don’t hold back.

Your ideal clients will love you for it.
