Are you tired of being told “Speak Louder”? Try This

Many people say, “I need to increase my volume and I need to be louder.” The question is, is the problem stemming from the technical volume level, or is it from the fear-based psychological level? The technical part is easy to deal with. The psychological part, on the other hand, is where the real challenge comes up.

If you get feedback that you’re not loud enough, or that you need to speak up because people can’t hear you, I have one question for you: Do you really want to be heard? If we dug through the fears, here’s what comes up to most people: “If I am being seen, I am being heard. If I am being heard, I could be judged. If I am judged, people would disagree with me and I don’t want to get into arguments.” That’s the real problem.

The truth is, some prefer to just be in the background. Some don’t want to be the center of attention at all. Due to discomfort or other personal reasons, some people don’t want to be in the spotlight. They view the spotlight as something dangerous, so they step back and just blend in the middle. and not stand out.

Have you ever heard of the tall poppy syndrome? It’s about when the tall poppy gets chopped so it is better for it to just blend in with everybody else. Why? Because that’s where it is safe. The problem is, as entrepreneurs, the only way you’re going to make an impact is by standing out.

When you put yourself out there, you tend to only look at the negative side. You fear being judged, people disagreeing with you or proving you wrong. But what we need to do is move past the fears and think about what else could happen. Think about how you could inspire people, achieve your dream life, and make the impact you were put on this planet to make. Shift your mindset from the fears to the benefits!

Keep in mind that you don’t have to have everybody agree with you. It’s not natural. There are over seven billion people on this planet. Therefore, there are over seven billion points of view. Disagreement is natural. It’s expected.

Disagreements aren’t always about a personal attack or you being wrong. It’s simply a difference of opinions and experiences based on how a person’s lived. You can even start being curious about their point of view and learn something.

If you keep this in mind, it is a liberating place to come from. Instead of trying to win everybody over and be liked by everybody, you can focus on being authentic, attracting your ideal clients, sharing your points of view. Some people will resonate with it, some won’t.

I had a personal development coach who challenged me by asking, “Are you willing to give up the need to be right?” He invited me to take on the possibility that there are countless ways to accomplish the same goal, and I only happen to know one and it’s not the only way! It led me to share my voice more powerfully, realizing that I don’t have to know all the answers. I could be wrong, I could be right, but this is my way and that’s what matters.

Speak Your Truth

Take the pressure off of having to be liked by everybody. Free that voice and put your message out there. You don’t have to be right because there are so many different points of view. You are only sharing the one that resonates with you.

As long as you are speaking your truth based on your experiences, it will give you the power to speak louder, to be seen, to be heard, and to achieve your dream goals. What are you waiting for? Share your voice in a bigger way. People are dying to hear it!
